The Cavalry Brigade

Here you have my brigade of cavalry. Leading from the left are a troop of the Gendarmerie followed by the Fouquet Regiment. Behind them (and very unhapy about it indeed) are the troopers of the La Reine Regiment who at least can relish the idea that the Turpin Hussars are eating their dust as they bring up the rear.

Looking through various boxes and bags I have scrounged up another few cavalry to take Fouquet up to 19 figures, La Reine up to 16 figures and Turpin's up to 14. In the case of the hussars, the five castings I found had already been part-painted, so they won't take too long to paint up. I think they plust the half-done Cuirassiers du Roi might be done by Monday.

I really need to paint an officer and an ADC as a Brigadier for this brigade.

It is truly inspiring to see the whole hoard of cavalry at one time. They look terrific!

I hope in the near future to be brigading the Cuirassiers with the Gensdarmes to make a combined unit. My eye will then be on boosting them both to their full strength. Full strength looks at the moment to be 19 figures, but I do have my eye on the "magic" number of 28/9 or so...

I'm glad you like them; this is how I conceived of them as I have been putting them together over the past couple of years; a great mass of horsemen. I think I am at about the half-way mark for the size of army I am conceiving; about 10-12 regiments of Foot and 6 of Horse.

Then I need to get cracking on my Anglo-Germans...

Great stuff! Seeing pictures like that really keeps me inspired to make some real progress on my home-cast Prince August figures. Well done!

Hi Patrick,

I'm glad you like them! The Cuirassiers are coming along nicely and I hope to be adding 7 in the next few days. One is completed already and I really like the look of him; he's the most toy-soldierish looking toy soldier I've painted in a long time.

By the way, I think I have posted (somewhere here) some pictures of my own PA castings which I painted as more-or-less Saxons of the reign of Augustus the Strong. Have you seen those?

Regards,

Greg

Hello, Greg:

If you've posted pictures of your PA home casts here, then I've probably seen them because I've been following your blog for quite a while now, but it must have been fairly early on as my memory of them is vague at best. (A function of age? I hope not!)

Still, if you could direct me to where I could see them again, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

Regards,

Patrick

Patrick,

There are some pictures at the top of the February 2006 page and others at the very bottom of the March 2006 page also.

Greg

Greg,

These are exceptional castings, of course the paint job is even better, are they all RSM?

I had thought when my Russo_turkish War project was finished I would paint SYW. I like the nostolgia of the Spencer Smiths, however, these are really inspiring.

best wishes,
Donald~

G'day Doug,

All of them are indeed RSM miniatures except for the small group in red at the headof the column. Those are HE figures available from Spencer-Smith in the UK. The "real" Spencer Smiths were sculpted by Holger Ericsson anyway, so using HE cavalry would be like using the Spencer Smiths at one remove!

It's hard to ignore the RSM figures though, at $US27 for a dozen men and horses the price is hard to beat. Beautiful, uncluttered figures that paint very easily.

Greg
